Under the leadership of Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh, Pune's district collector, significant progress has been made in the crucial land acquisition phase of the Pune Ring Road project. This initiative, which has been allotted a compensation budget of Rs 2,625 crore, marks a significant milestone in the district's development agenda. The necessity for a comprehensive ring road around Pune became evident due to escalating traffic congestion in adjacent areas such as Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Sangli, Kolhapur, Saswad, Satara, Solapur, Ahmednagar, Nashik, Mangaon, Konkan, and Mumbai. This perpetual traffic influx has heightened air and noise pollution levels and strained intra-city traffic dynamics. Consequently, on July 14, 2015, the government sanctioned the construction of a ring road encircling Pune. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) was entrusted with the project, dividing it into East and West phases. Despite objections from residents regarding proposed land measurements, Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh closely engaged with stakeholders, elucidating the project's significance. Acquiring land from approximately eighty-four villages across six talukas presented a monumental challenge. Initial rates were established for flood-prone areas and subsequently revised as per government directives issued on January 24, 2023. Throughout the process, prioritizing landowner satisfaction remained paramount. In the initial phase, landowners from 32 villages along the Pune (West) Ring Road were served notices, offering options for consent. Notably, establishing a dedicated Land Acquisition Cell aimed to streamline compensation distribution post-consent. Decisions regarding land acquisition and subsequent transfer procedures were finalized in subsequent stages. Tariff determination for 48 villages along the East Ring Road has been completed, with compensation disbursement underway in some of these villages. Notably, the landowners have been credited with Rs. 2,625 crore, marking the district's largest compensation amount ever disbursed for public projects. The completion of the first phase, encompassing joint enumeration, rate determination, consultations, and compensation allocation, within a year, underscores a firm commitment to project efficiency. With Dr. Deshmukh's steadfast leadership, departmental collaboration, and the concerted efforts of concerned officers, the project is rapidly progressing towards completion.
